TAOP Exercise: Panning with different shutter speeds

here we have a series of photographs of a race practice day at Clay pigeon track near Yeovil. The exercise was to take action shots using panning methods at different shutter speeds to obtain the best effect.

1. Shot at 1/250 sec, fast enough to freeze motion of course, but with panning perhaps too fast as we also freeze the movement of the camera, we are looking to cause blur in the background to emphasis the movement of the kart, in particular to show its speed.

2. So dropping to 1/125 sec we are getting there, the subject remains sharp and the background is becoming less so, now we are projecting that feeling of movement.

3. Got it, down to 1/60 sec, now this becomes tricky to do, the panning must be spot on in synch with the moving kart but the trade of is a wonderful blur to background really giving us the sensation of speed.
