TAOP Exercise: Fitting the frame to the subject

This exercise is to consider using the frame around and within the subject.

f8, 1/250, ISO 400, 38mm

1. fitted exactly to the frame, to me this is pretty bland, it is nothing more than a record of this barge, the lack of lines and consideration to perspective makes it quite uninteresting.

2. We can zoom into the subject, to a particular part of it. This is a little more interesting but Im still not feeling this, I deliberately picked a dull and lifeless subject here and it didn't disappoint in proving a challenge.

3. So we take the frame back and open the scene up a little, here using the trees and their reflections to create something a bit more interesting. What it really needs a a change of perspective and opening up to make a proper picture that references not only the subject matter but its environment.

4. So here we are, and what a different piece this has become, same boat, same place, same time but look how some thought and the photographers placement has made it so much more. The lesson is that we must couple the frame we have, which is fixed, with the view in front of us and our placement to create the most interesting photography.
